Casio 2018 PRG650Y-1 Watch PROTREK TRIPLE SENSOR SILICON BAND BLACK
Introducing a night safari concept model for the lineup of Triple Sensor Version 3 PRO TREK models. The outside of the bands and the faces of all black. The designs of these models are stylish and subdued, without sacrificing the readability required during night time activities. The PRG-650YBE/650Y models feature ion-plated bezels. The PRG-650Y/650 models come with DURA-SOFT bands that incorporate silicon materials that improve durability. The inside of the band is luminescent, so it emits a faint glow during night activities. Function-wise, they are equipped with Neon Illuminator to provide easy reading of the time and function modes, even in the dark. Other basic functions include Triple Sensor (bearing, altitude/barometric pressure, temperature), one-touch measurement button, Tough Solar, and more. Movable lug components add to a better fit and more comfort. Everything about these models is designed and engineered to create functions and designs for night time outdoor activities.
I'm not big on writing reviews, but seeing as this product has so few, I thought I'd contribute one. For starters, this is an authentic watch. I ran the serial number and it came back confirmed. Authenticity is always a concern of mine when ordering online...you just never know these days. Now, on to the watch. I have had many and am a bit of a collector. I haven't had this one long yet, but I can already tell it will be my EDC. There is a bit of a learning curve to getting it set up but once you do, it functions perfectly. The crown makes set up a little more complicated than it needs to be but aesthetically, it adds the classy touch of a dive watch. The illumination is top notch and the hour hands turn on with the LED backlight. All viewing angles are sharp and crisp. So far, all alto and barometer functions are perfect. The compass was even calibrated correctly out of the box. Thermometers are relatively useless on watches, since they are warmed by your body, but it can easily be taken off for about 20 minutes and get a decent ambient reading. All hands line up perfectly and the digital time matches the hands dead on (I obsess over things being synchronized correctly). The casing is large but not that goofy looks "cartoonish" size and I have medium sized wrists. The band is comfortable, and while not a necessity under any means, the part that contacts your skin glows in the dark for a bit which is oddly satisfying. The watch keeps great time. If I lost this watch today, I would definitely buy it again. I was weary of this one in particular due to the lack of reviews, but I can verify that it is exactly as described.
This watch is pretty amazing. I love the functions on it and use them as often as i can. Whether I'm checking my elevation periodically throughout my hiking adventures, checking the temp at night when I'm backpacking, or simply checking the time this watch gets the job done with style. So again, functionally, this watch is pretty incredible. It also has a barometer which can alert you if there is a dramatic change in barometric pressure (indicating that winter is coming haha) and it has a compass! The strap is super comfortable and the underside glows a soft neon green (very aesthetically pleasing to the eye). Speaking of pleasing to the eye, the watch face itself is sexy and the size is just right. If you don't believe me, check out my pics.
I love the prg 650 series of protrek watches. I also have the prg 650ybe and cannot decide which one I like more. Outstanding night illumination the best I've seen. I haven't used many of the features besides the baro function and it's pretty accurate at letting you know bad weather is approaching. These watches are top quality as well. The prg 650y has a beautiful bezel that appears gun metal in color but shines silver off angles of light. The band is also a lighter grey color and the inside glows in the dark. Very nice indeed. For the price I feel like it's a bargain. If you wanna learn more about these watches check out nutnfancy on YouTube he has an extensive review on the prg series of watches.
I calibrated the watch per the manual, and I still get altimeter errors up to 325 feet. The compass also has an error up to 20 degrees, and the manual says that's "normal." I'm somewhat disapointed. The barometer is accurate (verified by airport weather data). The manual also says these reading are not to be relied upon for any precision actitivies like flying, skydiving, etc. So it's more of a fun toy, rather than a reliable tool.
Pro: Great watch. Easy to read, easy to set.
I wear this watch everyday. I don't pay attention to the thermometer because it gets thrown off by body heat. The compass works flawlessly for me. The altimeter is no help because I live in Florida where the altitude is mostly 1 foot above sea level, but I plan to test it someday. I'm sure it works fine. This watch keeps time very well, and stays charged no problem. Alarm is loud enough to wake me up, but I sleep light - there isn't a setting to change the volume. The backlight doesn't stay on very long, but I can read the luminous face no problem in the dark, all the points of interest are as bold as necessary. I keep forgetting to test the barometer, but I can tell the difference from outside to inside, so I know it works. Overall, this watch satisfies my curiosity a couple times per month, which is worth it for me, and I will use it more from time to time throughout its life. I like the way it looks, and it seems really durable.
Perfect daily watch, easy to use and lovely to look at.
