Basics: They look exactly like the product photos. The leather is soft and smooth (no grain) and the detailing is excellent. The hardware is silver. They have a thickish sort of lining or padding inside the shaft which I wasn't expecting, but which is comfortable and doesn't interfere with the fit or make them look bulky.

Shoe fit: I normally wear a 7.5-8 depending on brand. The 8Ws were only $55 and I've worn wides in some brands before so I decided to try them. They are very comfortable and roomy enough where I could easily wear medium-thick socks, but I also had no discomfort or sliding wearing them barefoot.

Heel height: Perfect. Enough to give you that little bit of arch to make your legs look more toned than they really are, but low enough to be so comfy you don't feel like you're wearing heels.

Shaft fit: This is what I was most worried about because every site I saw these listed on showed a different circumference measurement (up to 18"). My calves are about 17.5". Initially the boots "just" zipped (though without any straining or squishing), but after wearing them for just a few hours they've loosened a bit to where I can slide my hand in. This has made them more comfortable but hasn't given them that "rain boots" appearance that some skinnier-calved reviewers complained of.

My only gripe, and this is due more to the shape of my legs than the design, is that they are a bit too roomy in the ankles. However, I suffer from disproportionately skinny ankles relative to my calves. This is only an issue because it can cause the leather to "bunch up" or fold at the ankles and this has caused painful rubbing in other boots I've had. I'm hoping that the calves will stretch a little more and allow the boots to sit more loosely, which should help alleviate this problem. That said, the heels, which is where I most often get blisters in just about any kind of shoe, are generously rounded and do not rub at all, so I am very pleased about that.

Overall, I feel like I've made out like a bandit getting such cute Clarks at such a low price. They're very comfortable, and actually live up to their promise of "wide calves." I hope you find my measurements helpful in determining whether these would be a good fit for you. :)

I ordered these boots because they are listed as having a 17.25 opening. I have 16" calves so figured they should fit. They were fine in the foot, but the calf was way too small. Measured about 15".

I want to write this review to assist others when purchasing boots online as I learn so much from reviews myself. I like Clarks shoes so thought I'd give these boots a try even though other reviewers had problems with the fit. I usually like flat shoes and although these boots have a bit of a heel, they are very comfortable. The leather and style are superb. I have a somewhat long and narrow foot and usually wear a 9.5N if I can find the narrow size. I bought a 9.5 M and the foot part fits well although slightly long. I had no trouble zipping the boot over my straight legged jeans. My naked calf measures around 15" at the largest part. The problem for me is that the ankle area is too large so the leather is bulky at the ankles. These boots would be outstanding if it weren't for the ankle fit. They may be a nice fit for others, but not for me. I like them so much that I'm contemplating sending back the 9.5 and ordering a 9 in hopes the shorter boot might reduce the ankle bulk. The medium width will not work for those with a wide foot. Hope this helps.

I can usually rely on Clarks to work with my higher volume wide foot with a high arch. I should have looked more carefully at the picture and then I might not have tried these. The toe and front arch area is very flat and thin; it doesn't start to rise until in the midfoot area. My higher volume foot has no place to fit. I honestly think the length and width are OK, just not the space between the bed and the leather where the toes meet the the foot - it's barely an inch high. I measured a pair of shoes that fit - they are 1.5" tall in the forefoot area and another pair I have are 1 3/4" high at that spot.

The shoe is extremely comfortable to walk in, with a nice spongy feel, but firm enough to feel steady. The boots look great. I wear a 10W or WW normally, my calf is 17.75". These fit without any tightness and I have a bit of room left over. I put on skinny jeans and they zipped up great. My guess is that at a size 10, these measure about 18".

They look great, too.

They do have a foam lining, which I do not like much, but I'd have happily bought these is they had fit.

The best winter boot in my closet! Fits comfortably and very warm! I love my purchase!
