My daughters needed character shoes for a musical they are currently in. The shoes came in great condition. However, we had to order them twice. The girls measured their feet inside shoes, so the first sizes we bought were way too big! We sent the too big shoes back. The second ones we bought fit well since they measured their feet barefoot and used the sizing chart correctly.

Tip: Don't order by street shoe size or by going up or down a size. Measure the foot of the person needing this shoe barefoot. Compare the length of their foot in inches to the size chart to determine what size shoe to order, and you should get shoes that fit well.

I purchased these in size 6.5M because I wear a 6 in street shoes. Not only were they too big, but the left shoe was significantly larger than the right shoe (by at least 1/2 size, if not more.) You could visibly see the size difference in the shoes themselves (one even sits taller than the other when you look at them at eye level.) I contacted the seller, ordered another pair in the same size (they recommended 1/2 size larger than street shoes) and paid more because I ordered direct from the company, because Amazon was out of stock in my size and the next size down. The second pair was EXACTLY the same as the first, with the left shoe significantly larger than the right. It must be a flaw in the manufacturing for this size. I gave 2 stars because other sizes may not have this flaw. I purchased another brand in 6.5M, as you normally would with character shoes, and they fit perfectly. (See photos for comparison.) I never leave bad reviews, but wanted buyers to beware of the flaw in the size 6.5M in this brand.

I can't even tell you for sure how the shoes actually fit, because the smell was so horrible that I took the shoes off as soon as I put them on. The odor was strong and noxious, the worst I have ever smelled (and I've purchased other products made in China that had a bad chemical smell). Even after I put the shoes back in the box and put the box in another part of the house, the smell lingered. I had to turn on my air purifier. The shoes felt stiff...wouldn't be good for ballroom. And the soles had some spots that looked worn.

My daughter is VERY picky about her shoes and is always complaining about shoes pinching her toes. We tried these on in 4 sizes/widths. Her usual size in a wide width was perfect as they seem to run a bit narrow. They are lined with a soft material and she has been wearing them barefoot with no major complaints. She was recently in a school production of Grease and was able to wear these for hours with no problems. So glad we found these!

Update: Over a year later and they are still in great shape. She has worn them through two theater productions and a season of being on the speech team where they must wear professional dress all day. She says they are comfortable to wear all day and she usually wears them barefoot. These are her go to shoe for when she needs a dressy shoe. Truly heaven sent for us as she is VERY picky about her shoes.

These are great dance shoes. (Wear them inside only. They have leather soles that will not do well with outdoor use) I usually wear a size 9 1/2 with inserts. I ordered them in a different color before in my normal size and they were too large. I got the black shoes this time in a size 9 ( a half size smaller than I normally wear) and they fit perfectly (with my inserts). I wear them every week (for the last 3-4 months now) for swing dancing and they hold up well and are comfortable to dance in. The package arrived even before the estimated time. All in all, a good shoe.

I bought these both for dancing on stage, and for general wear. So far, they have been quite comfortable for both purposes, meaning they do not hurt my toes or chafe around the top edge at all. There is not a lot of arch support, but there is a minimal cushion in them. The cushion is made of some polyester that makes my feet a little hot. I must state that I have a bad big toe joint in one foot that prevents me from wearing high heels without pain, and this 1 1/2" heel does not bother this joint at all. Also, I have a bunion on the same foot, and usually the edge of most modern dress shoes will cut into the bunion because the vamp is small (covering just the toes); but these shoes do not cut into my foot at all, because the vamp is extends a little further back on the top of my foot. So far, the design of this show is a winner regarding both of my foot problems. A note about sizing: It was recommended I order 1/2 size up from my normal street shoe size, which I did, and the shoe was very large on me. So I exchanged them for my normal street shoe size and they now fit perfect. Also, I usually order a "wide" fit because of my bunion, but this shoe is a "normal" width and the fit seems fine. I will definitely be buying this show in the other color. I may even try the 2" heel.

The shoes fit great as long as you size them properly according to Theatricals size chart; do not use Amazon's size chart. Go to the Discount Dance website for sizing or ask the studio to size. My daughter's dance studio sized her at 4M or 4.5M (street size 2/3 depending) and told me to order "Theatricals Baby Louis." However, I did not understand the difference between character shoes and tap shoes and ordered the wrong ones. It would be nice if that was made more apparent but I did find the correct tap shoe. Yes, the shoes have a weird smell, but most all shoes with man-made uppers have that smell if they haven't been sitting out for a while. FYI, sometimes Discount Dance has the best price on their own website, sometimes the best price is on Amazon. Overall, these are great shoes. Comfortable with a nice heel that isn't too high for students new to dancing with a heel.
